On October 27, 2017 Dr. Mark Messineo and Alicia McKersie PA-C along with colleagues of Norwood Hospital helped lead an educational session for students and faculty of Norwood High School’s Robotics and Anatomy and Physiology classes.
Dr. Messineo lectured on the anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics of the knee. He reviewed the impact of osteoarthritis and the operative and non-operative management of this disease. Dr. Messineo discussed the importance of robotic technology and the state of the art advancements in total joint replacements which we are able to provide for our patients. The interactive session concluded with a demonstration of the Mako Robot and the students were able to try the robot in a simulated operative setting.
The morning was rewarding and educational for all involved. Orthopaedic Specialists of Massachusetts supports community outreach programs and opportunities to teach within the fields of sports medicine and general orthopaedics.
Dr. Dewire has been in practice for 20 years and is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton, South Shore Hospital and Tufts Medical Center. He received advanced training in Foot and Ankle Surgery with Marilyn Yodolowski, M.D. at Pro Sports Orthopedics, as well as completed an Internal Medicine internship at The Veterans’ Administration Medical Center in Boston, and an Internal Medicine Residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center in New York. In addition, Dr. Dewire has a fellowship in Rheumatology from University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle.
On May 10, 2017 Dr. Robert Patz was recognized at the Massachusetts Orthopaedic Association annual meeting for his successful two year term as association president. During his term Dr. Patz focused on issues related to patient safety, the opioid epidemic and access to orthopaedic care. Dr. Patz will continue to serve on the board of directors.
On October 18, 2017, Dr. Mark Messineo, Orthopaedic Surgeon at Orthopaedic Specialists of Massachusetts (OSM), presented to a packed conference room at Norwood Hospital about MAKOplasty, the breakthrough robotic technology for knee and hip replacement surgery to relieve the pain of osteoarthritis. Dr. Messineo and OSM are one of the few practices in New England who have the exclusive ability to offer this latest technology and have been performing this advanced surgery since 2011.
