Mark Messineo, M.D. Presents MAKOplasty Robotic Surgery
On October 18, 2017, Dr. Mark Messineo, Orthopaedic Surgeon at Orthopaedic Specialists of Massachusetts (OSM), presented to a packed conference room at Norwood Hospital about MAKOplasty, the breakthrough robotic technology for knee and hip replacement surgery to relieve the pain of osteoarthritis. Dr. Messineo and OSM are one of the few practices in New England who have the exclusive ability to offer this latest technology and have been performing this advanced surgery since 2011.
MAKOplasty robotic surgery allows orthopedic surgeons to achieve exceptional surgical precision and improved surgical outcomes for knee and hip replacement surgeries. Using a 3D modeling of the patient’s entire joint, a surgeon can virtually plan for exact alignment, orientation, and size of the implant prior to surgery. The surgeon uses a robotic arm that he or she controls and has virtual visualization of the patient’s knee or hip for a precise implant placement and preservation of healthy bone, ligaments, and surrounding tissue. Using this robot assisted technology allows surgeons to reduce the incision size and decrease risk of complications with potentially faster post-operative recovery.
